Any decent rifle should have sufficient firing pin protrusion to slam into them at least that far, and much more, to indent them, crush the priming compound against the anvil, and so on. is that the primer, when fully seated, should be somewhere between flush, or 0.008" under-flush (from memory). Easily enough checked with even basic callipers, using the bit on the other end from the jaws. If, by "too deeply" you mean that they are more than 0.008" under-flush, then that might be a concern. They are shipped with the anvils not all the way in, if they were not, they might be even more sensitive and dangerous. The way they are supposed to be set into the pocket is all the way in, plus a little bit more to crush the (slightly protruding) anvil in and "set" them to actually work. Secondly you cannot seat a primer "too deeply". It is done by feel, as with most such hand tools (but not all) Click to expand.Firstly, you can't adjust an RCBS hand primer.
